ACTIVITIES
| There
are several clubs and/or activities Roosevelt students can be involved
in. Here are a few: |
| Sierra
Society |
|
|
|
| Sierra
Society is ERMS's environmental organization with the mission to
Explore, Enjoy, and Protect the Planet. We are instrumental in the
recycling and composting programs at Roosevelt. Other activities
include: nature walks/hiking, camping, animal/wildlife exposure/education.
Sierra Society is on a mission to make ERMS a GREEN school...with
each helping, caring, dedicated person we CAN make this happen!! |
| Science
Bowl |
Teams
of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students compete against each other to
answer questions from the US
Department of Energys Science Bowl.
Categories range from General Science and Math to
Physics and Chemistry. Students work together to get an answer,
enter them on a remote control and earn points for their team. |
| Student
Council |
Student
council consists of three elected representative
from each house. Our primary goal is to serve the
school and make it a fun place to be. Student council
has been very busy lately! In the recent weeks we have elected our
executive council (President, Vice
President, and Secretary) and have chosen our t-shirt
design. We just finished selling Valentine grams that
the students seemed to love. Student council also did our annual
adopt a family. We helped a family around Christmas that lost everything
in a house fire by collecting essential items. The dances are also
a big part of student council. We have sold tickets and decorated
the first two dances and cant wait to do our last dance of
the year in the spring. |

spirit around! |
| Apps
in the Classroom |
Apps
in the Classroom is an activity that allows
students to research various hands-on activities that can be applied
in the classroom. With the use of iPhones, iPods, iPads and other
devices, the students in this activity have been charged with the
task of finding apps that can be used in the classroom at the hands
of the students. |

Actively Helping (RAH) students have been very busy. On Monday,
February 6, the RAH students visited Ennoble Manor to play bingo
with the residents. Before going the students were making valentines
and treats to share with the residents. Each month the
students will visit the nursing home and plan different activities.
Another project the students were involved with is the University
of Iowa Children's Miracle Network Dance-athon. Our students sold
bracelets with the names of children who have been helped by the
hospital and were able to raise over $300.00. At this time we have
not yet decided on other projects we will do but will probably be
doing a fundraiser for the Dubuque Humane Society, so watch for
coming details. |
| AAA
Club |
|
|
The
Triple AAA Club is continuing to use the Tzec Maun Telescope in
Cloudcroft, New Mexico. This is similar to the MicroObservatory
program, but the students must do this program at night. They have
many more objects that
they look at using The Sky software by Software Bisque. Their images
are usually available in 3 to 5 minutes for analysis. We have invited
students from George Washington Middle School and Thomas Jefferson
School to join Triple AAA members in this special opportunity. |
